Hyon-ch'ung-il

June 6 is known as Hyon-ch’ung-il or Korean Memorial Day. On this day, Korea honors the brave warriors who died in battle to protect their country. Koreans hang their national flag in front of their house and hold special services at the National Cemetery in Seoul.

As martial artists, we should pay special tribute to Memorial Day, especially since our first tenant is "Loyalty to Country". One thing we can do to show our devotion is to learn about the flag, since it is the most well known symbol for any country.

While each of us has a different national flag depending on where we live, we all wear a Korean flag on our uniform to represent the history of our art. Search the internet to find out more about your country’s flag, but in the meantime, try this word search on the Tae Kukgi or Korean flag by printing out this page and finding the words below.
