Tang Soo Do Alphabet Book

Want to be creative and learn your Korean terminology at the same time? Make your own Tang Soo Do Alphabet Book!

Here’s what you need:

  • 27 sheets of paper for the cover and alphabet pages
  • Pencil
  • Crayons, map pencils, or thin markers to add color to your illustrations
  • Stapler

First make your book. Take all 27 sheets of paper and staple them on the left side. Your book will hold together better if you staple three times along the left edge. Now you are ready to do the fun stuff!

Start with the front cover. Write your title, something like "My Tang Soo Do Alphabet Book". Be sure to write your name, since you are the author, and the date. Now decorate the cover and make it colorful!

Open the book; turn the cover page over so that you now have two blank pages facing you. On the left-hand side (on the back of the cover page), write the letter A. You can make it as fancy as you like. Many people like to make bubble or block letters and fill them in with designs.

Turn the page and write a B, and so on.

Continue until you have finished every letter of the alphabet.

Now you are ready to fill in Korean words and illustrate. Think of different terms and place them under the appropriate letter. For example, for "A", you could write Ahp – front, and Ahn Jo – sit. Then draw a picture of yourself sitting on the floor during meditation at the beginning of class. You don’t have to draw every word you add in your book, just choose the ones you want to illustrate. Remember, you have two facing pages to add your terms and illustrations, so be creative.

Just don’t forget to draw in pencil first, then add color later so you can erase any mistakes.

It’s fun to make alphabet books, but it’s even better to learn while you are creating!
