Roll, Roll, Roll Yourself . . .
This game is similar to the standing long jump,
but with a little twist. You may play with 2 or more
players in the spirit of competition, or try this
yourself and increase in skill level each time.
What you’ll need:
A soft mat or surface on which to roll.
Tape (preferably masking tape or carpet
tape); one piece per person, with their name
marked on it.
Something to serve as the starting line. You
may mark this off with tape if you prefer.
An adult or older teenager to supervise the
game (the referee).
How to Play:
Line up. For the first turn, each person
will do a front roll on the mat from a kneeling
position. Make sure that you roll over your
shoulder, and not directly over your head. The
referee will mark the place where your shoulder
first touched the mat.
Next, have each person in line complete a
standing front roll. The referee will move each
person’s tape accordingly. Let each person do
this for several turns, trying to move their
tape farther away from the starting line on each
turn.
If you are willing to try, now get a running
start before each roll. Remember, you must not
run past the starting line. This is where you
need to start your roll.
The winner is the person whose tape is
farthest from the starting line.
Want to add one more element to the game? Place
soft pillows or blocking pads on the mat and
practice doing a jump front roll over them. You can
stack your pillows up to see who gets the most
height, or place them next to one another on the mat
to see who can jump the farthest. Have fun! |
