Crab Chess
A fun game to play in a class with not too many
people is Crab Chess.
What you need:
- At least 8 players
- 2 pieces of headgear
How to play:
- Split players into two even teams
- Designate one player from each team as the
"king" or "queen"
- All these two do is sit at opposite ends of
the room, Indian style, guarded by members of
their team
- Remaining members decide who guards and who
attacks
- Guards must stay by king or queen and keep
attacking 'knights' from reaching their
king/queen
- Attackers must try to get past opposite team
guards to tap the other teams king or queen on
the helmet.
The catch:
All guards and knights must walk crab style.
Which means - sit with your hands and feet on
the floor, with your back facing the floor. This
is the crab walk.
How to attack:
Knights must crab walk around the floor and try
to get past guards to win for their team. When
members from the opposite teams run into each
other they can fight - which is trying to knock
the other person off their hands and knees.
Pulling hands out from under a person, pulling a
foot out and bumping into them are the ways you
can knock them over. If a knight's butt touches
the ground, they are out and must sit off to the
side.
How to win:
- By reaching the opposite teams king or queen
and tapping them on the top of their head (this
is why they wear headgear, so they don't get hit
too hard)
- By knocking all opposing team members out of
the game
- Or, if time is a problem, whoever has the
most team members left in the time allowed.
