Tang Soo Do Baseball!!!

Ever wonder how you can play baseball in your Tang Soo Do class without getting in trouble? Simple. Play Tang Soo Do Baseball. And you don’t need any special equipment – just the stuff you already have around the studio.

What you need:

  • 5 minitargets (4 for the bases, 1 as the "ball")
  • 2 teams
  • 1 instructor

How to play:

  • Divide the class into 2 teams. Try to keep the teams even, with the same number of each belt on each team.
  • Team A will “bat” first, while Team B goes “into the field”. Make sure you have a first baseman, second baseman, third baseman and a catcher.
  • The class instructor will ‘pitch’ for each team.
  • Depending on the ranks in the class, there are several ways to “bat”. Lower belts can use a roundhouse kick, while the higher belts can use either a wheel kick or jump roundhouse kick.
  • The instructor will “pitch” to the person at bat, who will use whatever kick has been decided on to hit the target. If they hit it, they have to run the bases. If the target is caught without hitting the ground, the batter is out. If not, as long as they get on a base before they get ‘tagged’ with the target, they are safe.
  • After three outs, the teams switch sides. Usually, this game needs the last 5-10 minutes of a class to even be worth it – so make sure you behave so that your instructor will set aside this much time for you.
  • Winning teams can be offered a prize – candy, stickers, tattoos .. whatever the instructor wants to give.
Benefits:

While this game is all in the name of fun, by using different kicks while at bat, students will learn how to judge where their kicks should go – depending on where the target is thrown when they are at bat. With lots of practice, a student should be able to kick anywhere the target is thrown without missing it.
