1-2-3 Redlight

This game is somewhat like the popular version kids play everyday outside their homes. But, we’ve added a little bit of Tang Soo Do into it.

What you need:

  • 3-10 younger kids (more than 10 kids and it can get a little out of hand)
  • 1 adult to be the stoplight
  • 1 or 2 other instructors to supervise and point who’s out

How you play:

Like I said, this game is really similar to the regular version of the game. The stoplight turns his or her back to the players and says 'Green Light.' When the stoplight is green, all the kids run towards the stoplight, until he or she turns around and says 'Red Light.'

Wanna know the catch?

Before the game starts, the instructor decides one karate move that the players must execute while making their way to the stop light. Punches and stationary kicks work best, but if a jump kick is picked, then the student cannot be taken out of the game for landing if he’d in midair when the stoplight turns green.

So, let’s go over it one more time.

Step 1: Kids line up, waiting to a green light.

Step 2: Stop light turns green; the kids are off, doing one agreed upon karate move

Step 3: Everyone freezes when the stop light turns red and faces the players

Step 4: First person to get to the stop light without getting out is the winner! Yay!

Good luck. And if you wanna add a twist, try making them do a form to make their way to the stoplight. But that means the stoplight will have to position itself close enough so that when half of a form is done, someone can win.
